How does Reeve create an effective character with Shrike?

guy Reeve creates an effective character description on Shrike, a shrike that cares. The Shrike we know is a careless terrifying beast, however there are a two sides to this beast and this so called beast cares. Let me give you an example. When Hester wants to go to London and murder Valentine Shrike kind of acts like a father figure and says “you must not” , “you will be killed” at that moment Shrike actually cares for Hester’s safety. Can you actually believe she said shrike has no feelings with what I just said to you I think what Hester said was incorrect. Don’t you?

I think he makes the reader feel scared at first but when the reader reads a little more they see that he is not all scary. Shrike makes the reader think more because the reader might read a bit and might judge it with out reading more and will put shrike as a fearful, creepy beast not knowing he has another side. Some readers will read on and find the other side to shrike and then they can judge him. Not judging a character without knowing the full story.

Shrike’s appearance appeals to his stalker type of side. Shrike wears a long battered and ripped trench coat trying to hide is robotic body underneath. His sharp metal claws are his best weapons it can rip through anything in the entire world. However the one thing that scare all his enemies are his green illuminate eyes that victims can see from a mile away in day and night.

Shrike has so many things to say but he does not speak how we all do today. His vocals are something else it sounds like a computer on its last legs. When shrike speaks he instantly strikes fear in the eyes of his enemies and making them fall to their knees.

Before shrike kind of used to be free lance if you get what I mean. Now it seems like shrike follows orders because he said” I work for the lord mayor now” to me that kind of shows he used to work for someone else because of how he said “now” .

Shrike kind of does not speak a lot he speak but only short sentences . He is kind of like terminator because he can kill people with own hands , scares people when he looks at them and finally is just an awesome character.

Shrike’s relationship with hester is kind of like a father, daughter relationship. I think this because when Hester first showed up at Shrike’s land he said “it is not safe for you child ” at that moment he is caring for Hester when he just met her. Later on when Hester wanted to avenge her parents deaths and to go London to find valentine and to complete her life long ambition by killing him. Shrike said “you must not go, you will die” there Shrike is acting like a parent and making sure Hester is safe. After Hester’s Mum and Dad died the only guardian she had was shrike and he was a pretty cool one because he was a robot and who wouldn’t want a robot as a guardian.

This is Your Online Domain

Hello and welcome to your personal online journal.

Edutronic has been created to enhance and enrich your learning at the London Nautical School. Its purpose is to provide you with an audience for your work (or work-in-progress) and you have the choice (by altering the ‘visibility’ of your posts) of whether your work on here is visible to the world, or only to your teacher.

Anything you post here in the public domain represents you and thus it’s important that you take care with that decision, but don’t be afraid to publish your work – as the feedback you may get from people at home, your peers and people from around the internet is only likely to enhance it.

Remember you can always access your class blog and all manner of resources through the Edutronic main website – and by all means check out the sites of your peers to see what they’re getting up to as well.

If you have any questions for your teacher, an excellent way to get an answer is to create a new private post on this journal. Your teachers are am notified of any new posts and will reply swiftly to any queries.

Make the most of, and enjoy this new freedom in your English learning!
